Indicator Post are used in fire protection systems and perform two functions.  First the Indicator Post provides a means to operate a buried or otherwise inaccessible valve and second the Indicator Post readily and clearly indicates whether the valve is open or shut.

Three styles are produced

  • Adjustable:  This design has a built-in 18" adjustment span
  • Non-Adjustable:  This is used when a trench depth measured from the top of the underground valve to ground line does not exceed 14".
  • Wall:  This post is mounted horizontally when a inside valve is installed behind a wall.

This first version of a new lighter weight design with heavier-duty internal assemblies. The operating torque on this new version exceeds 900 ft-lbs. The Adjustable Type Post includes a new patented "No Cut" stem adjustment assembly with over a 21" range. Internal Open/Shut mechanism changed to allow direct heat of a fire without interfering with the operation of the underground valve if required. The lower barrel pipe was 4" Ductile Iron pipe.

This first version has a separate bonnet cover held down by two bolts.  The name "Mueller" was not cast into the upper barrel, only ALBERTVILLE, AL.  Some have a "G" cast below window level.  Mueller provided a silver label above the window area.
