1972 Year Dates ONLY

We here at L&C Sales try to keep things as simple as possible however sometimes certain things must be fully explained. Our web master also has been directly involved in the water works business for over 35 years now. Having the right information for our customers has always been our goal. Mueller Companies current and even some former literature states that the 3-piece Brass Design Break Coupling ended at the end of 1971. Any hydrant dated 1972 was built with the new Steel Coupling design. For the sake of the person that has to order parts and rebuild a 1972 dated barrel, I must tell you that in reality Mueller converted to the new design During the first part of the 1972 production year.

If the Improved hydrant head is completely broken off, obviously by looking at the style attached you can determine what design it is and order accordingly.

If the head did not completely break off or if during cycling of the hydrant the operating nut is just spinning then the break coupling would be the first part to check on. Visual inspection of the internal break coupling design should be checked prior to ordering these parts.


	This change in break coupling design reflected a change in the Upper and Lower Stem build. If ordering a replacement Upper Stem for the IMPROVED series, make sure you are ordering the correct version parts.

	MID-1972 through 1980 Improved Break-Coupling Redesign During the production year 1972 the break coupling was changed to a 1-piece Steel coupling with clevis and cotter pins.

UPPER STEMS For IMPROVED Series H-74 and H-103

Break Coupling design prior to 1972 consisted of a 2-piece Brass Coupling that interlocked and held in place with a set screw. During the production year 1972 the break coupling was changed to a 1-piece Steel coupling with clevis and cotter pins.

This change in break coupling design reflected a change in the Upper and Lower Stem build. If ordering a replacement Upper Stem for the IMPROVED series, make sure you are ordering the correct version parts.

A Complete CENTURION™ Top Section with ALL PARTS required to attach it at the ground line barrel and lower internal stem. You supply to us Color Of Head-Bonnet-Caps Operating Nut Shape and Size Nozzle Threading details





		When a Mueller Improved hydrant Upper Barrel assemblies become destroyed, for whatever reason, but the Lower Barrel and Main Valve are functional, a new Complete Top Section can save thousands of dollars as opposed to replacing the entire hydrant.


	Includes the correct Upper Stem and Break Coupling Design that you require.

	The replacement Top Complete is the latest Mueller Centurion-250 Design. It should be noted that this Bonnet Seal and new Ground Flange Triple Seal meet the 250 psi rating. However the lower barrel gasket (to shoe) is still the original gasket that is rated for 175 psi maximum.




	4-1/2" VO SIZE ONLY

There is one exception concerning the 4-1/2" VO size only (Not the 4-1/4" VO). The seat ring cannot be removed through the Centurion-250 upper barrel. To remove the seat ring, The Centurion-250 upper barrel must first be removed and the seat ring removed at ground line.

Good record keeping of each fire hydrant that you have should always be practiced. When you change the record for this hydrant head replacement and if the hydrant is a 4-1/2" VO size, note this as to how the seat ring should be removed when needed in the future.

	Tamper-Resistant Option

The Mueller Tamper-Resistant Hydrant Hold-Down Nut is specially designed to make Mueller Centurion® Hydrants more resistant to tampering. It replaces the existing hold-down nut and surrounds the operating nut, helping prevent unauthorized operation of the hydrant. The special operating wrench for use with this option may also be used with other hydrants.
The O-ring sealed hold-down nut is ordered "Open LEFT" or "Open RIGHT". Δ
